Three actors create an invigorating, comic and heart-breaking version of Dicken’s classic tale. The story begins with three figures sitting in a churchyard reading the classic story. As they do, characters from the book start to come back to life and the clowns are sucked into Pip’s world. They help to recreate the famous story of orphan Pip, meeting the eccentric Miss Haversham, falling in love with the beautiful Estella, and discovering the dark secret of Pip’s secret benefactor.

Shifting Sands’ “Great Expectations” is invigorating, comic and heart-breaking: Dickens as you have never seen it before. With an original blend of clown theatre and melodramatic storytelling, Shifting Sands play with Dickens’ ingredients yet remain faithful to the original. The result… potent drama.

"A compelling production presented by hugely talented performers...a wonderfully inventive retelling of Dicken's bittersweet tale. The audience were completely absorbed" Total Theatre

‘This is how Dickens should be brought to younger audiences. It was sheer brilliance. My interest in the work of Dickens has been reawakened.’ Wiltshire Times

‘The audience in the Rondo in Bath were completely absorbed, and surely there can be no greater compliment for any piece of story telling. Even my 12-year-old son, a fully paid up member of the computer game generation, was engrossed throughout’ Brian Popay
