Shifting Sands’ ROMEO & JULIET is a fresh, invigorating version of
Shakespeare’s famous tale, brim-full of clowning and visual delights.
With a cast of three, Shifting Sands tackle the pitfalls of Shakespearean English, scale the dizzy heights of adolescent passion and plummet the depths of a lover’s despair.
The warring world of the Capulets and Montagues provides great opportunities for play. Props are scarce but maybe the ladder will come in useful?
But what begins as a game becomes deadly serious as they fall under the spell of passion and poetry. Playing with tragedy can be fatal.

What an incredibly brilliant and original production! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute and particularly liked the way you involve the audience.
Absolutely brilliant! It was nothing I imagined it would be!
A most brilliant performance. This has shown a new meaning of R&J that even Will himself would have enjoyed. Your interpretation makes me wonder if this is how it should be done. The fun does not detract from the tragedy of it all – a fine balance.
Absolutely stunning. I’m studying the play at GCSE, and really admire the way you emphasised both the highly funny, and tragic moments amazingly. Something really different, whilst remaining true to the script. Fantastic.
Amazing. I don’t like Romeo and Juliet that much, but you brought it alive. This show would have been great when I was studying R&J for GCSE.
Truly Shakespearean mixture of low comedy and high drama. Tomb scene truly moving.
Totally and completely brilliant – best evening’s entertainment 4 just ages. Now want to seriously read the text and relook at the whole story. Can’t speak highly enough! Humour and pathos, tragedy and wonder.
A wonderful show – both highly amusing and at times most moving. Stunning acting by all three. A wonderful interpretation of a well loved play.
Absolutely fantastic. Amazing. I have never seen a better Shakespearean production in my fifteen years of existence. Thank you very much for a truly priceless play.
It’s the first time I’ve ever understood the play.
Hysterical, witty, clever, poignant. In a word – brilliant. I can’t remember when I was last so entertained. Thank you.
Really amazed how you played so many parts with only 3 people. Loved it.
Thirty-four dates: theatres. Arts centres, rural touring and some schools. during 2004
